膚淺保養 Superficial Skin Maintenance
so the story is, i am innately lazy. sure i can tell La Mer from Pond’s. but it doesn’t mean my results of my so-called skincare routine is effective. so what is the point of knowing the difference between brand names probably all owned by P&G and truly knowing how to take care of skin? it shouldn’t be a passing fad or sporadic decision, skincare is a lifetime commitment.
my grandma uses aloe vera straight from her garden and rubs the inside contents straight on her skin. her face is quite shiny and tightened. i don’t have a garden. nor do i have any aloe vera planting strategies. but truly, i do believe in skincare. and right now, i have definitely moved into the realm of skin medi-care.
first off, i need to admit some mistakes. most branded department store cosmetic brands are good for actual makeup: foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow etc.
when it comes to skincare. SK-II is concentrated water in a bottle that cost $90 CAD. i’m not too fond of clinique, dior, biotherm, laneige, clea de pau, or shu uemura either, and those are the ones i’ve tried. by “not too fond” i mean that you can probably buy very similar items for 25% of the price @ a drugstore…the neutrogena, ponds, la roche posays of the world.
shiseido i’m on the fence about; i do like some of their products. but they only work on a very superficial level. say you have 3 layers of epidermis. all these skincare products only work on layer 1. layer 2 and 3 need more penetration and your average skincare line won’t do that for you.
i am now willing to be completely experimental. as in, given solid research and dermatological recommendations. my skincare routine will be more thorough.
i went to a cosmetic-laser clinic and got this procedure done:
染料雷射 aka Pulse Dye Laser- to reduce the appearance of blood vessels on my cheeks. People used to say I seem to have great “color” in my face. Or I don’t need blush etc. Well, sorry to say, that’s not cause I have better “chi” going on. It’s just that the blood vessels in my face split and multiplied. It gets worse with heat and exhaustion and will deepen with age. For prevention sake, and so I don’t need to freak out with red spider veins later, my treatment cost $4000 NT ($130 CAD)…and my bonus is I saw female celeb 大S @ the same clinic, which made me feel better. She is quite anal about skin care, can’t go wrong. Doctor claims I need 4-6 treatments. We’ll see how effective it is…
next, i carefully evaluated my current products, eliminated the ones not suitable for my skin in ASIA in particular, and made sure all of them are summer-friendly: less oil, less concentrated abstracts.
currently using:
- face wash: FANCL face wash powder; very neutral, great so far, def prefer powder not foam
- toner: some japanese brand i cannot pronounce but works great; no plans to switch toners
- makeup remover: TISS makeup oil by shiseido; will try something lighter
- moisturizer (day): Hanskin BB cream; BEST PURCHASE IN KOREA
- moisturizer (night): SK-II aqua physics; i give it 2.5/5, will try something else
- advanced sereum: Cellex advanced vitamin c serum; still trying it out…
- tools: RUNVE ultrasonic facial stimulator; still trying it out…
we’ll see how things go in 3 months; if my product line has changed and what works!!!
